Picture by Matt Rolon (Danbury Hat Tricks) Sorry. I had to use it.
Another great night of action across the Federal tonight. Let’s take a look in three sentences or less.
Watertown 2, Port Huron 3
The Wolves started to storm back late after a 3-0 Port Huron lead, but the Prowlers hung on in the only meeting of the season between the two teams. 27 saves for Noussianen. Winner goes to Bucell.
Binghamton 7, Blue Ridge 3
It was 1-0 after the first. Six goals in the third for the Black Bears. Led by Yates’ two goals. Mike Mercurio grabbed his first goal as a Bobcat.
Venom 0, Danbury 4
This game was delayed about 40 minutes due to the Division 3 SWC/SCC HS Conference championship at the Danbury Arena. JBWA beat BBDI (my former team) in a shootout. First off, Hullaby jumps Jesseau early on. Jesseau’s time on ice had to be 35 minutes. Anyway, a nice 24 save shutout for McCollum. Four different goal scorers for the Rabbits.
Columbus 7, Carolina 6 (F/OT)
Game of the night? Game of the year? What a hockey game in Winston-Salem. Columbus was up 5-1 after 2, and Carolina stormed back with five in the third, including a Zach White Hat Trick plus an extra. Ryan Hunter added two for the Dragons before Cody Wickline won it in the extra frame, ending one of the best games of the year.
Athens 4, Motor City 1
This game was really tame… until it wasn’t. It was 3-0 Lobsters before the wheels fell off. Colatarci got into it with Avery Smith, in came Cody Oakes, in came Filip Virgili as the technical third man, and Virgili got the rare “hair pulling” penalty for touching Oakes’ luscious locks (c’mon, Cody Oakes has top 5 hair in the league). I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it happen. Picard, Gallant, Wiesblatt and Milan with the goals for the Lobsters. BTW, since Steve Martinson was in Big Boy Arena for the first time in 20 years, check out one of the last times he was there!
Monroe 5, Dashers 1
38 losses in a row. First win of the year for the veteran Cody Karpinski in his home state. Yianni gets his first point of the year. Jumonji with his second in three weekends!
Baton Rouge, Mississippi (POSTPONED)
Scott Brand didn’t even make it out of Michigan before a problem arose. Zamboni broke down, so tonight’s game gets moved to Sunday.
