It’s time for another edition of expansion watch, where we give you updates on potential new markets that the FPHL may go to. As was the case last time, it’s based off of public mention. Some of this will be repeat to the prior article, so if you wanna check that out, here it is.

There will be an article coming soon with markets that I personally think the FPHL should look into, if they really want to continue expanding. (Which I also think they should slow it down, but that’s my opinion)

Confirmed: Topeka, KS

Again, Topeka will be joining the FPHL. The team has launched their website and Name The Team contest.

Potential: Columbus, IN

As was the case in last month’s Expansion Watch, Columbus, IN could have the Sentinels. Not much change other than there is still a wait and see process if the team happens. They have been quickly building a staff, including a broadcaster, to get ready for the season.

The team has also come up with a plan for the expansion draft, so we’ll see.

Mentioned: South Carolina

This one was brought to my attention after our last article on this. On the January 28th edition of the Carolina Thunderbirds’ Coach Harry Show. Team owner Cary Ross had mentioned the league’s expansion, and said that South Carolina was set to happen.

Now, where? The only logical option is Florence, SC. It’s the only arena that is active that had pro hockey in South Carolina, and doesn’t currently have it. Now, there have been looks in the past, but the arena has a new GM, who has come over from an arena where he brought back hockey after seven years in Las Vegas.

The Florence Center holds 7,526 fans for hockey, and just underwent a renovation within the last few years. I think it would be a perfect spot for the league. It’s just under three hours to Winston-Salem, and a little over three to Wytheville. It’s also just under four to Athens. A perfect mid point for the southern teams in the FPHL.

The other possibility could be Columbia, but the arena that the Inferno once played in, is pretty old.

Interested: Dover, DE

An update on Charlie Pens Sr’s ambitions for a new rink. The temporary facility in Dover will not be happening because of cost. This could lead to Pens’ rink getting underway, but the cost maybe pricy.

Mentioned: Texas, Louisiana, and West Virginia

There have been some talks about Texas, as well as another market in Louisiana as well. West Virginia has also come to mind too.

Now, you can check out some of the others in the prior article, but this is more to give updates since.

Coming up next, is an article on where I personally think the FPHL should expand.
