It was a big day at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum as the team formerly known as the Mississippi Sea Wolves made some major announcements ahead of the season. It was announced that Maria and Justin Barr would be joining the team’s front office, Maria working part-time in social media and community relations, while the former team captain will be in the Front Office in a to be announced role.

The team also announced its new name for the upcoming season, which will be the Biloxi Breakers, selected over two other names, the Gulf Coast Cruisers and the Mississippi Mosquitos.

Mississippi Coast Coliseum executive Director Matt McDonnell also said that the team will have a one year lease deal, after almost not bringing back hockey in the spring. McDonnell said that there were bills that weren’t paid at one point in the season, but he believes in team owner Chris Bryniarski’s vision to improve at every facet of the organization and “put butts in seats” in which McDonnell said is the most important thing.

There’s no doubt that the Biloxi franchise has seen its ups and downs through the first three seasons, but with a new owner, who is committed to winning, and bringing fans to the arena, there are a lot of positives.

Bryniarski said he wants to be completely different from the prior ownership, and he also mentioned how he was left in the dark with a few of Barry Soskin’s business decisions, not only with the Sea Wolves, but also with the other teams.

Bryniarski is now the lead owner for Biloxi, Baton Rouge, Blue Ridge, and Topeka. Barry Soskin still owns the Port Huron Prowlers, and has a minority with the Carolina Thunderbirds, now owned by Cary Ross.

The Breakers also said they have a lot of more news to come out, and also shared mock ups of the team’s jerseys in person, which are similar to the ones they posted in the lead up to the vote.

Next up for the Breakers, continuing to sell season tickets, hire a new Head Coach, the franchise’s 8th Head Coach in four seasons, and build a roster who can contend in a super tough Continental Division.
